Savannah Bailey

Hello! My name is Savannah Bailey and I was born in Parker, Colorado but I have been living in Greenville, South Carolina for most of my life. I am a rising sophomore at Furman and am currently studying Applied Mathematics as well as German Studies with hopes of pursuing a graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering in the future. My first year at Furman has been so rewarding and I absolutely love how inviting and accepting everybody has been during my transition into college. During my first year I joined the Furman Symphony playing double bass, began working at the Chapel, joined the Math Student Advisory Board, and met some of my best friends. After Math and the Mouse I will be working on research with Dr. Palladino in the Classics department where I will be annotating ancient Greek texts to make them more interactive. During this research project I will also be training AI to detect names and places in ancient Greek texts so that future scholars can reference works much faster. In the fall I cannot wait to become a more active member of the Math Student Advisory Board and to work with Dr. Harris as a STEM consultant for MTH-150! My first year at Furman was spectacular and I am excited to spend my next three years here!

By going on Math and the Mouse, I hope to gain insight on the direction I want to take in my mathematics journey at Furman and beyond. I am excited to get a taste of the math classes I have not taken yet so that I can make informed decisions on my future courses. I am also excited for this May X because it will give a glimpse into what doing mathematics research is like so I can pursue some form of mathematics research after my sophomore year. Overall, I cannot wait to see how this great experience will shape the rest of my Furman career.

To continue, I absolutely love Disney World but in the recent past I have only visited Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. That being said, I cannot wait to return to Animal Kingdom and Epcot to see how these parks have changed since I visited them last. My favorite rides at Disney World include Soarin' and the Tower of Terror (drastically different rides I know) so I am very excited to ride them again. Another thing I am looking forward to is the Guardians of the Galaxy ride in Epcot as I hear it is one of the best rides at Disney. I am super excited to return to all of the Disney Parks and feel like a kid again!

While the Disney Parks themselves are fantastic, the best thing about this trip is going to be the amazing people I get to share this experience with. The whole group is full of such fun personalities and I know we are going to forge strong bonds that will last the rest of our time at Furman and after! I cannot wait to watch movies, sing along to Disney songs, play board games, and eat Dole Whips with these people! I know this is going to be one of the highlights of my Furman career and I can't wait to head to Orlando!
