Ashton Holt

Hello, my name is Ashton Holt. I am a rising Sophomore from Myrtle Beach currently majoring in Mathematics-Economics. I am also pre law and curious on how rising innovation could cause potential legal roadblocks, but extremely interested in data analytics role in our lives and exploring recently created majors as well. 

Before I came to Furman, I knew I wanted to major within the Math department, so I looked at the opportunities they had beyond the classroom.  I quickly saw opportunities like research, internships, study away, but the Math and the Mouse opportunity stood out to me the most. It essentially serves as a blend of all three which is very intriguing to me and ultimately what drew me to it the most. I am extremely excited to see the real world implications of data analytics and business research on day to day decision making within major companies, starting with Disney. 

I am excited to revisit Disney World in a different way: focused on optimization and application of ideas within mathematics and statistics rather than blinded by the immersive worlds they create. In the same way, I am just as excited to ride my favorite rides like Tower of Terror or Cosmic Rewind and grab snacks at some of my favorite places like the Spring Roll Cart and Star Wars Milk Stand. In addition to this, my all-time favorite Disney characters are Stitch and Lightning McQueen (Cars 2 is my favorite animated movie) and excited to see the Cars themed expansion which has begun construction. Finally, I am excited to further connect with fellow Math majors and strengthen connections with peers and professors.
